Academy Trust Handbook 2021 Edition
The Department for Education has updated the Academy Trust Handbook (formally known as the Academies Financial Handbook) ahead of the new school year. All academies are required to adhere to the handbook; designed to assist the effective management and control of the academy’s finances.
The decision to change the name is so that the document reflects the importance of the contents in its entirety. The document name isn’t the only change; there’s new information on safeguarding, health and safety and estates management, cybercrime and external reviews of governance to name a few.
The Financial Notice to Improve (FNtI) has also been renamed to Notice to Improve (NtI). This is to reflect the scope of the Handbook and Notice. It is also to ensure understanding and recognition of the duties that trusts have, and their importance beyond financial oversight; the role that has been demonstrated throughout the pandemic.
