Most commercial suppliers will require some degree of management across high spend categories and our experience suggests that this is usually where schools 'let and forget' contracts until they come up for renewal. The 'let and forget' approach is well known in the educational sector and it allows commercially savvy suppliers to increase costs, leverage in other deals and to work out how to improve their returns from schools.

Managing the contract is as important as negotiating the contract in the first place. A well managed contract will traditionally see savings of 10% to 20% by working with suppliers on efficiencies and with internal stakeholders to ensure spend is not based on historical spending habits.
